Yunomi Invitational 1: Teapots + Yunomi

Friday, August 4th, 2023

Available 10:00 am CST, ONLINE ONLY

For our 17th Yunomi Invitational, we are brewing up something new and having a two-part show. On August 4th, we will be featuring the work of 47 artists who have sent along a teapot with their 6 Yunomi. On August 25th we will feature 120 artists who each sent 6 Yunomi

Definition of Yunomi (U-No-Me): a cup with a trimmed or turned foot, without a handle. Unlike the more formal Chawan tea bowl, which is used during the Japanese tea ceremony, the Yunomi is made for daily (or informal) tea drinking. While a Chawan is not too tall or narrow for vigorous whisking of tea and is held with two hands, a Yunomi is taller, not as wide, and used mostly to drink tea made with tea leaves and is held with one hand. Remember, this tea bowl is not a tumbler, a sake cup, or a noodle bowl. Each artist is encouraged to make their own interpretation of the Yunomi using their personal style.
